Before The Blackout, the capsule was implanted in Danny, when he was young. After his death, Rachel Matheson took out the capsule from her son, and it was still on. While on the way to The Tower, after Rachel broke her leg, she told Aaron Pittman that the capsule is a first-generation nanotechnology and it could heal the wounds and repair the broken bones and tissues. When Aaron implanted the capsule in Rachel's broken leg, her leg is fixed.
